Being a large state, there are many top universities in Maharashtra. As such the quality of education in Maharashtra is good and the state receives many students from across the country. The University of Mumbai is one of the popular Universities in Maharashtra. This university was established in 1857 and many colleges in Mumbai along with colleges of nearby regions like Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri etc., are affiliated to University of Mumbai.

Similarly, the University of Pune is also a well known and respected institution and is rated as one of the best universities in Maharashtra. It was established in 1949 and offers 46 academic departments. In today’s time, there are hundreds of colleges being affiliated to the University of Pune.

Maharashtra has many other prolific universities, which aid in making the state a hub of education for higher studies in the country.
